PIERRE H.JAX

Deep Cuts

Pierre Jax has recorded and composed works for varying media and compositional ventures, including for short films, podcasts, and his own compositional works. With his love of films, world music, and cross-combining orchestral, acoustic, and electronic genres, Pierre has led himself to be specifically geared towards writing for the ever-changing landscape of media and film. He is currently working to create connections in the spheres of commercials and short films- using his knowledge of audio-video production to support these ventures.

As an avid musician, Pierre has performed internationally in competitions, such as in the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) where he and his group placed first in the Chamber Music Division in November of 2019. Pierre has also worked more recently as a gigging drum set player and producer, connecting with artists to ensure their vision comes to reality. On campus, Pierre has performed with UNT’s graduate ensemble, NOVA, and the variety of world percussion ensembles offered (cir. 2021-2022) as learning new music cultures, techniques, and styles is always a priority.

Pierre’s passion for music began in grade school as he found himself getting in trouble for sneaking into the computer labs to listen to the now outdated, “Pandora Radio”. He took up drumming as a mode to limit his incessant tapping (which worsened) and eventually grew to teach drum lessons, all while composing for colleagues and students. Pierre began songwriting thereafter and worked to produce songs and pieces- always exploring, always writing.

More recently, Pierre has recorded works for String Quartet and aspires to compose varying pieces for a recital in 2024, aiming to release a compositional album thereafter. Outside music, Pierre coaches a swim team in Bedford, TX, and enjoys films, food, and having laughs with family and friends.
